It is unclear exactly when witches showed up in history. Early witches were people who practiced witchcraft, using magic and calling upon spirits to help aid their needs. Many, however, were simply natural healers. They were called “wise women” whose choice of profession was misunderstood. Since witchcraft has a bad reputation of being associated with the devil. Even though some religions don’t see Satan as evil, the religion that was forced upon people was Christianity. So anything associated with the devil was seen as demonic. So a lot of Christians saw witchcraft as working with the devil. One of the earliest records of a witch is in the Bible in the book of 1 Samuel, thought to be written between 931 B.C. and 721 B.C. It tells the story of when King Saul sought the Witch of Endor to summon the dead prophet Samuel’s spirit to help him defeat the Philistine army.
Witchcraft is not set to one religion or any at all. Someone can practice witchcraft without it interfering with their own religion at all. Wicca, however, is a religion that has witchcraft to take a big part of it. But you do not need to practice any religion to practice witchcraft. Although a lot of witches worship gods and goddesses, it is still about your own energy. Witches use gods and goddesses from Egyptian mythology, Greek, and more. There is no right or wrong, it is whatever you choose. A lot of spell books may say however, to harm none and not use your energy for evil. Hopefully it is something we all agree on.
Right..?There are many ways you can go about witchcraft whether it be in spells or cooking. Nothing is wrong and you can do whatever you like.
